two hundred three

according to a recent UN study, nearly 2/3rds of all deaths in the world are caused by noncommunicable diseases, such as cancer, diabetes and heart and lung disease. and nearly 80% of those deaths are in developing countries. good to know, as most funding, research and treatment in developing countries goes towards communicable diseases, such as HIV and tuberculosis.

this is particularly interesting to me as i've always had a passion for HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, especially related to its effect on african nations. i wonder - when i do eventually go back to get my MPH, will the focus for a global health concentration change?
