the NHL was formed on 26 nov 1917, after the national hockey association was suspended. it originally held 4 teams - all canadian. the first american hockey team to join the NHL was the boston bruins in 1924. now the b's are going for their first title since the 1970s. to note: there have only been 15 other seven-game stanley cup finals.. the bruins will face the canucks in the 16th ever.
